Import and export rules

Use Export to download a copy of a rule. Use Import to add a previously exported rule. This is useful for keeping a backup or moving a rule from one store to another.

Where to find it

Open the rule you want to manage. At the top of the rule page, use Export to download the rule or Import to bring in a saved rule.

What travels, and what may not

The rule settings, limits, and values are included in the exported file. However, products and collections can be different between Shopify stores. After importing a rule into another store, check any selected products or collections before enabling the rule.

Verify it worked

Import the rule and open it.
Check that the limit type, values, message, and other settings are correct.
If the rule uses products or collections, confirm that the correct items are selected.
Enable the rule and save it.
Test the rule on your store to make sure it works as expected.

Can I export everything at once?

No — export works one rule at a time.

Will a rule referencing my products import cleanly elsewhere?

Not always. Rules that name specific products or collections depend on those existing on the destination store. Check the rule after importing rather than assuming it came across whole.

Is importing safe on a live store?

The rule arrives for you to review. Save it with the status off first if you want to check it before it enforces.
