Limits

Shopify allows 25 active validation functions per store, counted across every installed app. Separately, your plan decides which features you can use. The two look the same from inside the app but have different fixes.

Applies to
  • Every store, on every plan
Doesn't apply to
  • Disabled rules, which do not count toward the ceiling

They present identically — something will not activate — so check which one you have hit before assuming an upgrade helps.

Getting more headroom

Disable what you are not using. Draft and disabled rules do not count. Campaign rules from a finished drop are the usual candidates.

Consolidate. One rule can carry several limits, so a cart minimum and a product cap do not need to be two rules. Combining is usually the fastest way back under the ceiling.

Check other apps. If you run another checkout or B2B app, it may hold validations you have forgotten about.

Most stores need three to ten in total, so the ceiling only bites on complex setups or where rules have accumulated over time.

Plan limits

Which features you can reach is separate and comes from your subscription. Locked features are marked rather than hidden, so you can see what upgrading would give you — see plans.

Frequently asked

Does upgrading raise the 25-rule ceiling?

No. That is Shopify's cap, not the app's, and no plan changes it.

Do disabled rules count?

No. The cap counts active validations, so pausing one frees a slot.

Another app is using my allowance.

The cap is per store across all apps, so the only options are deactivating validations elsewhere or consolidating yours.
