1. The custom message is not enabled
Entering text is not enough — the custom message option has to be on as well. With it off, the default is used and your text sits unused in the field.
2. You are looking at the wrong surface
| Where you looked | Needs |
|---|---|
| Checkout | Nothing — always shown |
| Cart page | The cart-page setting and the app embed |
| Cart drawer | The above, and often a Drawer Watch Selector |
See works at checkout but not in cart for the cart side.
3. Multilingual fallback
With multilingual messages on, a language you have not translated falls back to the Default Message. If a customer reports the wrong language, that is usually what happened.
4. The message is there but unreadable
Long messages wrap badly in a narrow checkout column, and on the cart page an unstyled message can blend into the theme. Keep it to one sentence, and use Text Color or Custom CSS in the cart display settings if it needs to stand out.
Verify the fix
- Break the rule and open checkout — your text appears.
- If you show it on the cart page, check there and in the drawer.
- If multilingual, check a translated language and an untranslated one.
